Mind the gap! Event unlocks aviation careers for disabled people

Did you know there’s something called the Disability Employment Gap which measures the difference between the employment rate of disabled people, compared to that of non-disabled people?

Today that Disability Employment Gap  in aviation stands at 29% so there’s plenty of scope for improvement, according to Equal Skies, part of disabled flying charity Aerobility.

To help bridge that gap, there’s a special free careers event being held at Manchester Airport on 26 June to give people with a disability the knowledge they need for a potential career in aviation or aerospace. The event is called Skies Unlocked.

There’s a short application process for the event due to space limitations. If you are over 18, have a disability and a passion for aviation and aerospace, the organisers want to hear from you.

“We will be giving six invitations to the most passionate individuals,” said the organisers.

Agenda for Skies Unlocked is:

  • 1100 Welcome
  • 1110 Ice breaker and scene setting
  • 1130 Day in the life of Manchester Airport
  • 1200 Networking lunch
  • 1230 Activity
  • 1300 Employability workshop
  • 1330 Pathways into the industry
  • 1345 Wrap up

Applications close on 16 June. For more details and to apply, click here.
