Spanish flight school for professional pilot training FTEJerez is replacing its fleet of older Piper Warrior aircraft with a brand new fleet of diesel-powered Piper Archer DX aircraft.
The first 10 of 20 new aircraft has already arrived. They are powered by a 155hp Continental CD-155 turbodiesel engine equipped with Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) and a constant-speed three-blade MT prop.
As well as burning less fuel than the equivalent avgas engine, the CD-155 engine also uses Jet-A fuel which costs less than avgas, and is more readily available in many countries.
“Our acquisition of these brand-new Piper Archer DX aircraft is a testament to FTE’s commitment to excellence in aviation training,” said Oscar Sordo, CEO of FTEJerez.
“Having successfully operated older Piper Warrior aircraft for many years, we have a proven track record with Piper as a reliable aircraft supplier. The Archer DX will enhance our training capabilities and ensure that our students receive the best possible training in a modern, sustainable, and efficient flying environment.”

The Archer DX has a full glass cockpit with Garmin G1000NXi avionics and autopilot, TAWS-B (Terrain Awareness and Warning System) and Angle of Attack system.
“Expanding into the European market with FTEJerez underscores Piper Aircraft’s commitment to supporting top-tier pilot training,” said John Calcagno, President and CEO of Piper Aircraft. “The Archer DX delivers the reliability, performance, and efficiency required to meet the demands of students and airline partners alike.”
